Serve Over Fridges

A serve over fridge (also called a serve over counter) is a refrigerated display counter with a staff-facing rear and a customer-facing glass front, used to present and sell fresh food such as deli meats, cheese, fish or sushi across counters in delis, butchers, fishmongers and restaurants. Curved versus flat glass is the first choice — curved suits a traditional deli look, flat maximises usable display area — followed by whether a specialist format for fish, meat or sushi is needed, since temperature and humidity requirements differ.

Serve Over Fridges — FAQs

Curved or flat glass for a serve-over counter?

Curved glass gives a traditional deli-counter look with a slightly reduced display area, while flat glass maximises usable shelf and display space and suits a more modern counter design.

What temperature should a serve over fridge run at for fresh meat?

Fresh meat display typically needs to run colder than general deli produce, around 0°C to +2°C, to maximise shelf life and meet food safety expectations for raw protein.

Do serve over fridges need a rear staff access door?

Yes, virtually all serve over counters include a lockable rear-facing door or sliding panel so staff can restock and serve without reaching over the display glass.

The category is dominated by Tefcold, with Blizzard and Mafirol also well represented and Polar and Hoshizaki further down the range, suited to delis, butchers, fishmongers, restaurants and sushi bars.
