Freestanding Gas Fryers

A freestanding gas fryer is a floor-standing deep-fat frying unit fired by natural gas or LPG, the standard choice for high-volume fish and chip shops, pubs and takeaways needing fast heat recovery between baskets during continuous service. Gas remains the preferred fuel for many chip shop operators because of its quick response and lower running cost per fry cycle at high volumes.

Key specifications

Freestanding gas fryers commonly come in single or twin-tank formats with 15-25 litres of oil capacity per well, burner outputs typically ranging from 10kW on smaller units up to around 31kW on larger twin-tank models, and run on natural gas or LPG depending on site supply. Thermostat range runs roughly 130-190°C, with a cool-zone base for sediment, 304 stainless steel tanks and cabinet, and a requirement for a suitably sized flue or canopy extraction system given the open flame and grease vapour output. Gas Safe registered installation is a legal requirement for connection.

Freestanding Gas Fryers — FAQs

Why do chip shops prefer gas fryers over electric?

Gas fryers typically recover their oil temperature faster after a basket is dropped in, which matters for continuous high-volume service where baskets are loaded back-to-back throughout the day.

What extraction does a freestanding gas fryer need?

Gas fryers need a canopy extraction system sized for both the flue gases and grease-laden vapour output — this should be specified and installed by a qualified ventilation contractor before the fryer goes live.

Falcon, Lincat, Imperial and Pitco anchor the stocked range, suiting fish and chip shops, pubs and high-volume takeaways.
