Open Fronted Multideck Fridges

An open fronted multideck fridge is the classic supermarket-style chilled display unit with no door, using a continuous air curtain to keep multiple shelves of drinks, dairy or grab-and-go food cold while giving customers instant access.

Key specifications

Modular bays run 1250-2500mm wide, 700-900mm deep and 1900-2200mm tall, giving capacities of 600-1200 litres. These units hold +1 to +4°C, run on a 13A single-phase supply per bay (larger runs may need a dedicated circuit), use R290 refrigerant, and operate around 52-60dB due to the air curtain fan running continuously. Adjustable shelving, optional night blinds, digital controllers and a 1-2 year warranty are standard.

Open Fronted Multideck Fridges — FAQs

Why are open fronted multidecks noisier than glass door versions?

The air curtain fan has to run continuously and harder to maintain temperature without a door barrier, which increases both energy use and operating noise compared to glass-door equivalents.

Can an open fronted multideck be converted to glass doors later?

Some manufacturers offer retrofit door kits for existing multideck cabinets, but compatibility depends on the specific model, so it’s worth checking with the manufacturer before assuming a retrofit is possible.

The category runs predominantly on Mafirol, with Williams, Blizzard and Frost-Tech also well represented, common in convenience stores, farm shops, forecourts and staff canteens.
