THE WORKING VIEW

Why this extraction fan earns its place

The FAN 9/9/1400 is a centrifugal unit built for kitchens where every millimetre of ceiling or wall space counts. Measuring just 300 × 380 × 387 mm and weighing only 9 kg, this is a compact workhorse designed to hang from standard mounting brackets or nest into a tight ductwork run without dominating the space.

Small doesn't mean underpowered — the 9/9 format (matching inlet and outlet) is a proven design for moving consistent airflow through kitchen hoods and into ducting. It's the go-to for independent cafés, takeaways, and bar kitchens running a single prep line or open counter where a full-size commercial hood isn't needed, but real extraction is.

At 9 kg, installation is straightforward — one person can handle positioning and mounting, and weight won't stress lightweight ceiling joists or wall frames. Cleaning and maintenance are equally simple: access to the inlet is direct, and the compact form keeps moving parts concentrated and easy to inspect.

BEFORE YOU BUY

Questions, answered straight

The 9/9 designation tells you the inlet and outlet are both 9 inches (roughly 230 mm) in diameter. Total airflow depends on the ducting, bends, and resistance; longer runs or tightly bent ducts reduce efficiency. Always design your ductwork with the fan installer, not around a guess.

If your hood is wider than about 1 metre or you're extracting from multiple cooking stations, you may need a larger fan or a pair of smaller ones. A single 9/9 works best for a single line, a pass-through, or a small island. Oversizing your hood for an undersized fan creates noise and poor capture.

The FAN 9/9/1400 can mount horizontally in ceiling space, vertically on a wall, or within a ductwork run — check the installation guide for orientation and support requirements. Ensure proper vibration isolation if mounting directly to timber or metal frames.

Check the inlet filter every 2–3 weeks; grease and dust clog the inlet quickly in busy kitchens. A clogged inlet makes the motor work harder, generates heat, and wastes energy. For motor or bearing noise, contact Craven Cooling on 01792

The standard FAN 9/9/1400 is an indoor extraction unit. If you need fire rating or external weatherproofing, confirm requirements with Craven Cooling — options may exist, or a different unit may be specified.
