Why this chest cooler earns its place
The TEFCOLD EBC53 is a commercial chest cooler for chilled bulk storage in the back of house. With 414 litres gross and 411 litres net, it takes cases, trays and crates that would clog an upright, and holds the whole load at a steady +3 to +10 °C. The chest format keeps a large chilled capacity in a single low unit, which suits kitchens that buy in volume and need reserve stock close at hand.
Day to day it runs on static cooling with an electronic controller, so the set temperature holds without a fan pushing air around the load. Defrost is manual, so it is cleared on a routine rather than automatically, and the unit is rated climate class 4 to keep temperature in a warm kitchen. At 42 dB it is quiet enough for a working prep area. Energy class B and a rated 240.9 kWh a year work out at about £60 a year at 25p/kWh.
The cabinet measures 1516 × 696 × 857 mm externally, so plan the route in — packed, it is 1560 mm wide, wider than a standard single doorway. It runs off a standard 13 A supply drawing 320 W, so no special electrics are needed. Inside and out the finish is white. The sealed system uses R600a refrigerant with a 72 g charge, and net weight is 53 kg.
