Why this stainless lid chest freezer earns its place
The GM200SS is a compact solid-lid chest freezer built for frozen storage in a working kitchen or back-of-house. It offers 185 litres of net capacity (189 litres gross) and holds a frozen band of -24 to -14 °C, cold enough for long-term stock, batch-cooked reserves and bulk frozen goods. The solid lid keeps the cold in and gives you a flat surface to work over when space is tight.
Day to day it runs on a mechanical controller and static cooling, so operation stays simple with no digital menus to learn. It uses manual defrost, meaning you periodically switch it off and clear the ice build-up rather than relying on an automatic cycle. Noise sits at 42 dB, and the unit carries a climate class 4 rating, so it holds temperature reliably in the warmer ambient conditions of a busy commercial kitchen.
Build-wise the internal chamber measures 610 × 480 × 725 mm (W×D×H) and the unit weighs 48 kg. It draws from a standard 13-amp socket with 150 W input power, so no special electrical work is needed, and it uses R600a refrigerant with a 44 g charge. Energy use is rated at 237.2 kWh a year in class F, which works out at about £59 a year at 25p/kWh.
