Why this solid lid chest freezer earns its place
The GM500 is a large solid-lid chest freezer built for bulk frozen storage in a demanding kitchen or back-of-house. It gives you 454 litres of net capacity (463 litres gross) and holds a frozen band of -24 to -14 °C, cold enough for long-term stock, bulk goods and batch-cooked reserves. The solid lid keeps the cold locked in and doubles as flat working space when the bench is under pressure.
Running it is straightforward: static cooling driven by a mechanical controller, with no digital menus to work through. It uses manual defrost, so you periodically switch it off and clear the ice build-up rather than waiting on an automatic cycle. Noise sits at 42 dB, and a climate class 4 rating means it holds temperature dependably in the warmer ambient of a busy commercial kitchen.
The cabinet measures 1504 × 700 × 945 mm (W×D×H) and weighs 78 kg, so measure your doorways and delivery route before it arrives — at 1504 mm wide it needs a clear run in. Internally the chamber is 1380 × 480 × 725 mm. It runs from a standard 13-amp socket at 230 W input on a 220–240 V/50 supply, uses R600a refrigerant with a 90 g charge, and is rated at 339.5 kWh a year in class F — about £85 a year at 25p/kWh.
