Why this solid lid chest freezer earns its place
The GM400 is a solid-lid chest freezer sized for real volume, giving you 377 litres of net capacity (385 litres gross) for frozen storage in a busy kitchen or back-of-house. It holds a frozen band of -24 to -14 °C, cold enough for long-term stock, bulk goods and batch-cooked reserves, and the solid lid keeps the cold locked in while doubling as flat working space when the bench is full.
Operation is deliberately straightforward: static cooling driven by a mechanical controller, with no digital menus to work through. It uses manual defrost, so you periodically switch it off and clear the ice rather than waiting on an automatic cycle. Noise runs at 42 dB, and the unit carries a climate class 4 rating, so it holds temperature dependably in the warmer ambient of a working commercial kitchen.
The cabinet measures 1284 × 700 × 945 mm (W×D×H) and weighs 67 kg, so check your doorways and delivery route before it arrives — at 1284 mm wide it needs a clear run in. Internally the chamber is 1160 × 480 × 725 mm. It runs from a standard 13-amp socket at 230 W input on a 220–240 V/50 supply, uses R600a refrigerant with an 80 g charge, and is rated at 310.2 kWh a year in class F — about £78 a year at 25p/kWh.
