Why this solid lid chest freezer earns its place
The Elcold EL35 is a solid-lid chest freezer for bulk frozen storage in the back of house. It holds 323 litres gross and 279 litres net and runs at -23 to -16 °C, cold enough to keep frozen stock hard through service. The solid, insulated lid means the whole capacity is frozen storage, which suits kitchens holding meat, fish and prepped batches in volume rather than displaying stock.
Day to day it runs on a mechanical controller — a straightforward dial thermostat with no menu to set — and defrost is manual, cleared on a routine to keep the walls clear of ice. It draws 122 W in use. Energy class C and a rated 481.8 kWh a year come out at about £120 a year at 25p/kWh, so it is worth siting away from ovens and other heat to hold that figure.
Internally the cabinet is 936 × 536 × 696 mm. Packed for delivery it is 1095 mm wide, so check your access route and doorways before it arrives. It runs off a standard 13 A supply on 220–240 V, needs no plumbing, and uses R600a refrigerant with an 80 g charge. Net weight is 54 kg and the finish is white inside and out.
