Why this chest freezer earns its place
The Polar G-Series GP897 is a 378-litre chest freezer with a stainless steel lid — the format restaurants, takeaways and busy commercial kitchens reach for when they need a large volume of frozen bulk storage without the cost or footprint of an upright cabinet. It holds -25°C to -18°C, comfortably within the -18°C optimum recommended for long-term food storage to limit dehydration and freezer burn, and is built for everyday commercial use rather than light domestic duty.
Inside, two removable baskets organise stock and keep frequently-used items accessible without digging to the bottom of a full chest. Cooling is static rather than fan-assisted, running at a genuinely quiet 38dB and drawing 170W on a 220-240V supply — Polar rates the unit Energy Class E, and the G-Series line is built to keep working reliably in ambient conditions up to +43°C (climate class T), so it holds its temperature in a hot back-of-house as well as a cool store.
The lid is stainless steel and doubles as a genuine work surface, useful floor-space economy in a kitchen tight on prep room, over a steel-bodied cabinet finished in white with an aluminium interior. Defrost is manual, standard for a static chest freezer of this type, and an always-on LED display gives a constant temperature readout via the digital controller. The refrigerant is R600a, a natural hydrocarbon gas, and the whole 71kg unit is supplied on castors for repositioning and cleaning. It's backed by 2 years parts and labour cover.
