Why this solid lid chest freezer earns its place
The Elcold EL53 is a solid-lid commercial chest freezer built for bulk frozen storage in the back of house. With 491 litres gross and 426 litres net, it holds a serious volume of frozen stock — the format that suits long-term holding of boxed and loose product where a chest layout uses the floor space efficiently and keeps cold air pooled low when the lid is opened.
Day to day it runs at -23 to -16 °C under a mechanical thermostat, with manual defrost to clear ice build-up. It is climate class 3 and rated energy class C, drawing 708.1 kWh a year — about £177 a year at 25p/kWh — from a 176 W input. Cooling uses R600a refrigerant with a 108 g charge. The cabinet is finished white inside and out.
The EL53 measures 1500 × 729 × 861 mm (W×D×H) and ships packed at 1545 × 760 × 940 mm, so plan a 1500 mm run and check your access route against the 729 mm depth. It weighs 71 kg gross, runs on a standard 13 amp supply at 220–240 V/50 Hz, and plugs into an ordinary socket with no special wiring.
