Why this solid lid chest freezer earns its place
The Elcold EL71 is a solid-lid chest freezer built for bulk frozen storage in a working kitchen or back-of-house. It gives you 564 litres of usable capacity (691 litres gross) behind an insulated solid lid, holding a -23 to -16 °C band that suits long-term storage of meat, fish and frozen prep. The white cabinet is a plain, wipe-clean box that stands wherever there is floor space for it.
Operation is deliberately simple: a mechanical controller sets the temperature and defrost is manual, so you build a periodic defrost into your cleaning routine rather than relying on automation. It is rated climate class 3 and carries a D energy class, using 1168 kWh a year — about £292 at 25p/kWh — with input power of 186 W. Chest layout means cold air stays in the cabinet when the lid is lifted, which keeps the frozen load stable through repeated openings.
The freezer measures 1800 × 769 × 861 mm externally and weighs 85 kg net, so it needs a clear run of floor and a checked delivery route; packed it ships at 1860 × 800 × 940 mm. It runs from a standard 13 amp, 220-240 V supply and uses R600a refrigerant with a 115 g charge.
