The job

Aberdare Service Station, Canal Road — a working petrol station whose store was being refurbished end to end. Craven Cooling was appointed to remove the old refrigeration equipment and replace it with a modern refrigeration package, plus a new air-conditioning system — alongside several other contractors, in a relatively small retail space.

The customer was working to a tight programme: the full refurbishment had to be completed within one week.

The challenge

A petrol station isn’t an ordinary site. Every stage — from ripping out the old cabinets to running new pipework — had to be planned around fuel, footfall and four other trades.

Hot works, controlled

Work involving heat or ignition sources needed extra controls. Fire extinguishers stayed at the working area and the relevant fuel supplies were isolated before rip-out and installation began.

Steps at the door

The front entrance made getting big, heavy cabinets out — and new ones in — the hard part. Every movement was planned to protect the kit, the building and everyone on site.

A crowded site

A confined retail area with several trades finishing at once. Our engineers sequenced each stage with the other contractors so nobody slowed the wider refurbishment down.

03

The solution

Split the team, run the job in parallel. While one crew decommissioned and removed the old equipment, another ran the new refrigeration pipework, set the condensing units and installed the air-conditioning.

Careful planning and teamwork turned the complete store refurbishment around inside the customer’s one-week programme — on a forecourt that stayed operational.
