THE WORKING VIEW

Why this hot food display earns its place

The TEFCOLD EVO1202 is a compact hot serveover unit that sits at the crucial moment when a takeaway or bakery counter meets the customer. At 1200 mm wide, it's sized for high-street bakeries, convenience stores and small cafés — wide enough to command attention without eating the space behind the till. The fully automatic operation means you set the temperature once and the unit holds it: your pastries and baked goods stay fresh, your cream cakes stay stable, and your savouries stay safely hot all day.

The glass rear sliding doors let customers and staff see exactly what's available without opening the unit, which matters more than it sounds. Every time you open a display, you lose temperature and put food safety on a clock. These doors stay closed while you work. Inside, adjustable shelves let you arrange the display exactly as you need it — shallow trays for doughnuts, deeper shelves for larger cakes or savoury bakes.

Digital control and a temperature display on the front mean you know the unit is working. The interior neon light with a switch keeps the display visible in any light and lets you turn it off when the shop closes. The whole unit sits on adjustable feet, so you can level it even on old uneven floors. Built from a black exterior and grey interior, it's made to take the wear of a working kitchen and look professional doing it. TEFCOLD covers it with 2 years' parts warranty and 1 year's labour.

BEFORE YOU BUY

Questions, answered straight

The 1200 mm width with adjustable shelving lets you arrange it to suit your product, but it's designed for quality display, not bulk storage. Plan for around 15–25 units depending on size and depth. Bakeries typically use it as a showcase for their best-sellers rather than a warehouse.

TEFCOLD doesn't specify a fixed range in the data, but baked goods, pastries and pies typically hold at 65–75 °C. Your local environmental health officer or food safety guide will confirm the safe holding temperature for your specific products. The unit's digital controller lets you set and hold exactly where you need it.

No — TEFCOLD mark this unit as not suitable for rotisserie chicken. The design and airflow are set for lighter items like baked goods and pastries.

The glass doors, interior surfaces and neon light all need wiping down daily. Since it's a display unit in constant use, plan for a clean at opening, one mid-shift, and a thorough clean and check at close. Check your local HACCP requirements — many councils ask for daily temperature logs on hot displays too.

The rear sliding glass doors mean you need access from the back to serve it. Plan for at least 150 mm of clearance behind the unit. Check your space before ordering — a unit this size against a wall is hard to stock efficiently.

The digital controller will show you the reading. The unit is designed to be stable once set, but if you're opening and closing it heavily on a warm day, temperature drift is normal. If it won't hold temperature, the thermostat may need checking — ring Craven on 01792 732702.
