THE WORKING VIEW

Why this extraction fan earns its place

The FAN IN BOX 12/12/900 is the professional-grade in-duct fan for serious commercial kitchens. Housed in a solid 650 × 650 × 650 mm steel cube weighing 27 kg, it's built to sit in ceiling voids or wall cavities and handle sustained high-duty extraction without flinch. The 12/12 format means matching 12-inch inlet and outlet connections, delivering genuine capacity for wide hoods, long ductwork runs, and multi-station kitchens.

This is a no-compromise unit for restaurants, hotel kitchens, and catering facilities where extraction is life or death for staff comfort and food safety. The enclosed box design protects the motor and internals from grease splatter and kitchen humidity. Mount it securely in your ceiling or wall — the 27 kg weight means proper structural support is non-negotiable — and it'll work all service without drama.

The compact cube form is deceptively practical. It fits into standard floor joists and cavity work, integrates seamlessly into existing ductwork, and keeps everything self-contained. Maintenance is straightforward: filter cleaning is accessible, and if the motor needs service, you're dealing with a sealed unit designed for easy swap-out.

BEFORE YOU BUY

Questions, answered straight

The 12/12 format is designed for hoods 1.5 to 3 metres wide, depending on your cooking intensity and ductwork length. A shorter, straighter run can handle a larger hood; a longer or multi-bend run may need more fan capacity. Work with an extraction specialist to match hood size to fan and ductwork.

You can, but it's more complex — you'd need to balance airflow between the two and isolate them electrically. A single large fan is almost always simpler, cheaper, and more reliable than parallel smaller units. Stick with one 12/12 unless your layout genuinely demands it.

At 27 kg, ceiling mounting must use steel joists or purpose-made hangers bolted to adequate structure — not timber alone. Horizontal ductwork runs should be supported independently, not hanging from the fan. Have a structural engineer or experienced installer confirm the ceiling can take the load.

High-duty kitchens need filter checks every 1–2 weeks; grease builds up faster than in smaller operations. A clogged inlet drops airflow and stresses the motor. If you're running multiple shifts daily, plan on weekly cleaning or quick filter changes. Call Craven Cooling on 01792 732702 if the motor sounds strained.

A blocked extraction line forces the motor to work against back-pressure, generating dangerous heat and shortening the fan's life. If you smell burning or the motor gets hot, stop immediately and clear the blockage. Check fire dampers and mesh screens regularly — they clog and cause blockages.
