Why this counter fridges/freezer earns its place
The Foster FlexDrawer GM843 is a two-drawer counter fridge/freezer for kitchens that need chilled or frozen holding built into the prep line. Its defining feature is flexibility: each drawer can be switched independently between fridge and freezer at the touch of a button, working anywhere across a -21°C to +4°C range, so the same unit can flex with the season or the menu. The upstand version adds rear splash protection where the counter backs onto a wall.
It carries 152 litres across sliding drawers that take full-size 1/1 GN pans, and each drawer is rated to hold up to 200kg — enough for heavy, densely packed stock. Built from 304 stainless steel inside and out, the countertop is engineered to take hot cooking equipment such as griddles, induction hobs and broilers, so the footprint does double duty. The unit measures 1100mm wide by 700mm deep and 900mm high, and weighs 130kg.
Cooling is fan-assisted on R290, a natural hydrocarbon refrigerant with a global-warming potential of just 3, and the unit is built to climate class 5 — rated to run in ambient temperatures up to 43°C, the reality of a hot kitchen. It draws 2300W from a 230V, 50Hz single-phase supply and is rated energy class C at around 1,087 kWh a year.
