Why this stainless lid chest freezer earns its place
The TEFCOLD GM500SS is a solid-lid chest freezer sized for bulk frozen storage in a busy kitchen. It offers 463 litres gross and 454 litres net behind an insulated white lid, taking the freezer overflow an upright cannot hold — catering packs, whole joints, batch-cooked stock and long-hold goods — and keeping it clear of the daily service line.
It holds a frozen band of -24 to -14 °C set on a mechanical controller, so there is no electronic panel to fault and the temperature is simple to dial in. Defrost is manual, planned into a quiet period rather than run automatically. Running noise is 42 dB, and at 339.5 kWh a year it works out at about £85 a year at 25p/kWh. Energy class is F and it is rated climate class 4 for warmer back-of-house ambients.
Usable internal space measures 1380 × 480 × 725 mm and gross weight is 78 kg, so it is a two-person position into place. It runs from a standard 13 A supply, drawing 230 W, and cools with R600a hydrocarbon refrigerant on a 90 g charge. Leave clearance around the cabinet for condenser airflow.
