Why this stainless lid chest freezer earns its place
The GM300SS is a mid-size solid-lid chest freezer for frozen storage in a working kitchen or back-of-house. It gives you 273 litres of net capacity (278 litres gross) and holds a frozen band of -24 to -14 °C, cold enough for long-term stock, bulk goods and batch-cooked reserves. The solid lid keeps the cold in and gives you a flat surface over the top when the bench runs short.
Running it is simple: a mechanical controller with static cooling and no digital menus to work through. It uses manual defrost, so you periodically switch it off and clear the ice build-up rather than relying on an automatic cycle. Noise sits at 42 dB, and a climate class 4 rating means it holds temperature dependably in the warmer ambient of a busy commercial kitchen.
Internally the chamber measures 860 × 480 × 725 mm (W×D×H) and the unit weighs 56 kg. It draws from a standard 13-amp socket at 185 W input, so no special electrical work is needed, and it uses R600a refrigerant with a 50 g charge. Energy use is rated at 270.1 kWh a year in class F, which works out at about £68 a year at 25p/kWh.
