Why this strainer earns its place
The Olympia Barware Sieve is a straightforward tool that does one job exceptionally well. At 180 mm diameter, it's large enough to handle serious volume — a full pot of stock or sauce — but small enough to handle with one hand and pass easily between workstations. The mesh is fine stainless steel, and the integral stainless handle means no wooden grips to rot or plastic rivets to fail. Everything is one material, one piece, dishwasher-safe.
Professional kitchens use sieves constantly: straining stock for consommé clarity, dusting pastry with powdered sugar or cocoa, passing a finished sauce through mesh to remove lumps, pureeing vegetables into a velvety cream. This sieve does all of that. The stainless mesh won't rust even under repeated wet storage, and it won't dent or warp — the weight is there, but not so much that it becomes tiresome to hold during a long operation.
At 200 grams, it's light enough for comfort but substantial enough that you won't feel like you're wrestling it. The handle is moulded for a firm grip, and the mesh sits slightly recessed so you can press firmly without splattering. Simplicity is the strength here: no moving parts, no gaps where debris collects, and dishwasher-safe so it stays clean without fuss.
