Why this plate earns its place
The 294 mm Dudson plate is the workhorse width for plated restaurant service—room enough for protein, starch, and veg to read separately, without needing the expense or bulk of a larger setting. Stoneware in coupe profile means the glazed surface flows to the edge without a hard rim, so plating hand-on-hand across a pass is quiet and safe. The organic patterned glaze gives character and texture that reads as craft to a guest, while the kiln-fire means every repeat is identical—no hand-paint variation to manage.
Stoneware's density sits between vitrified porcelain and earthenware. This Dudson plate weighs under 1 kg and isn't brittle like china—it absorbs thermal stress and survives the drop from waist height that would snap a porcelain plate outright. The glaze is properly cured, so water doesn't penetrate the material: a plate soaked overnight stays as strong as fresh. Stacked tight, twelve plates pack efficiently and rest stable in a bus tub or a low shelf without padding.
Dishwasher-safe through 65 °C cycles and survives the intensity of a commercial pass—holding, plating, service, scrape, wash, repeat—for years. The patterned surface holds colour and doesn't fade across hundreds of cycles. This is a plate built for turnover, not display.
