Why this cup earns its place
An espresso cup is not a scaled-down mug. At 85ml, it holds a single shot or ristretto without crowding the crema, and the compact proportions — 50mm deep, 70mm wide — let a guest drink it in two or three sips while it stays hot. The shape works because it concentrates heat around the liquid and makes the cup easy to grip when full.
Porcelain at this weight is thermal stable enough for the job. Smoke grey masks the residual tannin staining that accumulates in a high-turnover espresso bar, keeping the cup table-ready without constant polishing. The glaze holds up through repeated dishwasher cycles without crazing or discolouration.
In service, consistency is the point. Six matching cups in a pack mean a barista can pull shots into the same vessel every time, and the customer gets the same experience. Dishwasher safe and quick-cycling lets a café rotate stock without tied-up capital.
