THE WORKING VIEW

Why this cups & mug earns its place

Vitrified porcelain is the hospitality standard because it chips less than earthenware and holds heat more effectively than thin ceramics. The Renoir range meets this specification with a gloss white finish that reads the coffee colour clearly and integrates into any service style.

At 23cl, this cup is designed for milk-heavy espresso drinks where the pour is generous relative to the base. A cappuccino (8:4:4 ratio of espresso, steam, and foam) fits comfortably. A flat white (tighter ratio, more microfoam) feels properly sized. The cup fills without crowding, leaving headspace to drink. For venues running high-volume milk drink service, the smaller capacity also means you can hold more cups in the dishwasher — batch efficiency improves on busy shifts.

Vitrified porcelain survives industrial dishwashing at 65–75 °C. The white glaze resists tannin staining and descales cleanly. The body's durability means fewer chips at the rim under regular edge impact.

BEFORE YOU BUY

Questions, answered straight

Yes. A cappuccino is typically 8:4:4 — 30ml espresso, 40ml steamed milk, 40ml foam, total around 110ml of beverage in a 150–170ml cup. The 23cl cup (230ml) has plenty of room for the full pour plus microfoam without spilling.

An americano (30ml espresso + 120–150ml hot water) is about 150–180ml. The 23cl cup works, but it's tighter than the 28cl or 34cl. If americano is a significant part of your service, the 28cl is a better fit.

The Renoir range spans 9cl (espresso only), 23cl (milk drinks), 28cl (standard/versatile), and 34cl (lungo). The 23cl is the smallest you'd use for a full drink; the 9cl is espresso-only. Pick based on your service formula: milk-focused venues prefer 23cl, all-format venues prefer 28cl.

Vitrified porcelain chips less than earthenware, but any ceramic is vulnerable at the rim. Stack carefully so cups don't scrape together during wash, and avoid direct water-jet impact on the top edge.

White vitrified porcelain resists tannin staining better than cream finishes, but long brews will mark it over time. Milk residue won't stain if you're running a proper dishwash cycle (no manual stacking). Weekly descaling keeps brightness; bleach soak monthly if needed. This is cosmetic — the cup remains fully functional.

The 23cl size is standard in third-wave and specialty-coffee venues, where tight milk-to-coffee ratios are part of the craft and the smaller cup signals quality. If your venue emphasises portion control or precision in milk-drink ratios, this size supports that positioning. It's less suitable for venues running all-format service with regular americano, since the 23cl is best reserved for milk drinks.
