A display freezer has a glass lid or door and is built to sell — front-of-house, sight-lines and lighting in the spec, system sized for constant openings. A storage freezer has a solid lid or door and holds stock at -18°C for the lowest running cost — insulation, not visibility.

Every square metre given to a freezer must out-earn the shelving it displaced, so measure both formats in visible product per square metre of floor.
A 1.5m glass-lid display chest occupies, with clearance, about 1.3m² of floor; its visible product area is the well aperture, roughly 0.9m², all horizontal. A good freezer in the wrong spot fails in a heatwave; sited properly, it runs for a decade.
Cabinets carry a climate class on the data plate — commonly class 3 (rated to 25°C ambient), class 4 (30°C) or class 5 (40°C). A class 3 cabinet in a shop that hits 32°C in July runs continuously and can lose temperature. For shopfronts and kitchens, specify class 4 minimum; near fryers, class 5.
Sun through glass is a radiant heater aimed at your product; a freezer beside a fryer, oven or heating vent fights that heat all day. If the only available spot gets afternoon sun, fit blinds or choose a solid-format cabinet — glazed cabinets suffer most.
Most cabinets need 50–100mm of clearance around the condenser airflow path — check the manual, and never box a cabinet into joinery without ventilation. A starved condenser raises energy use and shortens compressor life. Brush or vacuum it quarterly.
