Why this commercial dishwasher earns its place
The ED50 IS is the same reliable, three-minute 500×500 frontloader as the ED50, with one critical upgrade: integral water softening built into the machine itself. In hard-water areas (and most of the UK has hard water), that one addition changes everything. Scale builds up on heating elements, water valve bodies and rinse jets, and each layer costs you in heating efficiency, chemical performance and eventually, repair bills. Soft water means every rinse is crystal—glassware sparkles, plates come out spot-free, and you're not watching the heating element degrade year on year.
The softener regenerates automatically, using standard commercial softening salt. It's a quiet, invisible ally: no separate salt tank to plumb in, no extra space to find. The machine tells you when salt's needed and carries on working. The rest of the kit—peristaltic dosing, low-water usage, the three-minute cycle, the two baskets, the gravity drain—works exactly as the ED50 does. Engineer diagnostic mode means someone can read what's going on if something shifts.
For kitchens where water quality is the brake on service speed (sticky glass cleaning, rewashing plates because rinse spots won't shift), the softener pays for itself inside three years through water and chemicals saved. It's economy class kit with one expensive detail done right.
