THE WORKING VIEW

Why this plate warmer earns its place

Plate warmers are one of those workhorse pieces that every professional kitchen relies on, and this 750mm wide, 850mm tall unit earns its place. Stainless steel 18/8 construction means it'll still be here in ten years: no rust, no degradation, just reliable heating day after day.

The two doors let you load and unload plates without disturbing the ones already warming inside. The internal space is generous—382 mm wide by 700 mm deep by 616 mm high—which means you can stack plates to full height across both chambers, or use one door for dinner service and one for plating-up. At 12 kW, it heats quickly and maintains temperature evenly across the whole cavity.

Temperature control runs from 30°C up to 85°C, so you're not locked into one holding temperature. A carvery running a Sunday roast might hold at 65°C; a banqueting kitchen plating 200 covers might push to 75°C to ensure plates stay piping hot when they hit the table. You adjust once at the start of service and let it run. The stainless construction keeps the heat even—no cold spots where plates cool faster.

BEFORE YOU BUY

Questions, answered straight

The internal space is 382 × 700 × 616 mm. Stack dinner plates (around 300 mm diameter) and you'll fit roughly 15–20 plates per door depending on your thickness, which gives you a useful reserve through service. Tested with standard catering plates; your mileage depends on your plate diameter and how high you want to stack.

30°C is barely warm—useful for keeping room-temperature crockery or holding food at a gentle temperature. Most kitchens run 60–75°C for service: hot enough that plates stay piping when they hit the table, cool enough that you're not baking glaze off fine china. Carveries and high-volume services often sit at 70°C+. You set it once, and the thermostat holds it steady.

It's a 230V, single-phase, 12 kW load. Most kitchens can run this on a dedicated outlet if the circuit is rated for it; check with your electrician. No special installation—it's just a heavy electrical appliance, so you'll want it on its own circuit.

From cold to 70°C takes around 20–30 minutes depending on the ambient temperature in your kitchen. Plan to turn it on 30 minutes before service starts so plates are warming when your first order comes through. Once it's at temperature, it holds steady all shift.

It's designed for plates and crockery. The dry heat and enclosed space work well for warming ceramics. You could use it for other things (keeping bread warm, holding finished sauces), but it's not thermostatically controlled for food safety the way a bain-marie or hot-holding cabinet is. Stick to plates and crockery, and you'll get decades of reliable service.

Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth and dry it. The interior is stainless steel—water is fine, just dry it at the end of service to avoid water marks building up. No special chemicals needed. If you need service on the heating element, ring 01792 732702.
