THE WORKING VIEW

Why this heat lamp earns its place

A carving station is theatre. The customer walks past a side of beef, a tray of roasted chicken, a pan of vegetables—all glistening under warm light, all obviously hot and ready to plate. The Buffalo carvery heat lamp is the equipment that makes that theatre work. At 670 mm tall with a focused 250W infra-red beam, it's sized to warm a standard carving board or a small service counter without dominating the space visually. The stainless steel construction is robust and clean-looking; the lamp mounts on a stand that doesn't clutter the counter.

Temperature is maintained passively—the lamp warms the food, but it's not a full heating element that'll cook cold meat. Place hot meat under the lamp and it stays hot and visibly appealing; the warmth is enough to maintain core temperature during service without drying or overdoing it. The lamp operates at 230V on a standard plug—no installation hassle, just position it where you need it and switch it on. It's a straightforward piece of kit that does one job exceptionally well: it makes visible hot food stay hot.

For any operation where customers can see the food being cut, carved, or plated—a carvery, a kebab shop, a deli counter—this lamp pays for itself in the first month. Visible heat is appetite. Customers buy what they can see; invisible kitchen heat doesn't work the same way. The Buffalo is designed exactly for that moment: hot food under light, right in front of the till. Two-year warranty on parts and labour.

BEFORE YOU BUY

Questions, answered straight

The lamp provides infra-red warmth that maintains hot food at serving temperature once it's been properly heated in the kitchen. It's not a cooker or a deep heater—it's a warmer designed to keep hot food hot and looking appetising under professional lighting. Place cold food under it and it won't warm it sufficiently; treat it as a display tool for already-hot stock.

Infra-red heat is gentle compared to direct contact heating. Roasted meats stay moist under the lamp significantly longer than they would without one, but HACCP food safety guidance still applies: 63°C core minimum, and four hours is a sensible working window for most operations. Check with your food safety team on holding time for your specific menu; the lamp gives you the tool, timing is your call.

The lamp is designed for a standard carving counter or small service station—typically 200–400 mm above the food. Position it close enough to feel the warmth, far enough that you can move trays and plates without hitting the lamp itself. There's no precise spec because carving stations come in different heights; trial positioning when you install.

Yes. The stainless steel stand is stable but not permanent. You can reposition it daily if your counter layout changes, or move it between a carving station and a different service point. 14 kg isn't light, but it's not a two-person job either; lift and place deliberately.

Infra-red heat radiates; it'll warm any surface in its direct path. Avoid pointing it at plastic signage or food containers that might deform under prolonged heat. Stainless steel, ceramic, and glass are all fine. Use common sense about what's in the beam—if you're unsure, position a trial tray underneath and see if it's too warm for the packaging.

Two-year warranty on parts and labour covers manufacturing defects. If it fails within that window, contact Craven and we'll arrange replacement or repair. For service beyond warranty or for routine checks, call our team on 01792 732702.
