THE WORKING VIEW

Why this microwave shelve earns its place

A purpose-built shelf for mounting a microwave or similar countertop equipment. At 600 mm wide and 450 mm deep, it fits standard commercial microwaves and sits at a comfortable working height on most prep counters. The 35 kg rating means it holds a typical 30 kg microwave with 5 kg of spare capacity for a protective cover or small items stacked on top.

The shelf is 1.0 mm 18/0 stainless steel — a notch up in durability from standard 201 grade — so it resists corrosion even in humid environments or near hot water stations. It should be secured to two wall studs to spread the load, so locate your mounting points before you drill. Screws are included; install both and do not skip one even if the space looks tight.

Flat-packed, self-assembly required. Once it is up, it takes a quick wipe to keep clean. The weight rating assumes you do not exceed it; do not stack equipment or use the shelf as a catchall if your microwave is already at 30 kg.

BEFORE YOU BUY

Questions, answered straight

Most commercial microwaves weigh 25–32 kg. Check your unit's weight first. If it is over 35 kg, do not use this shelf.

Locate the wall studs — they are behind plasterboard and run vertically. The shelf brackets must attach to at least two studs. A stud finder takes two minutes and saves a dismount later.

No. Toggle bolts can fail under 35 kg of dead weight. Always use studs for this load.

18/0 (18% chromium, 0% nickel) is more corrosion-resistant over years. 201 grade is fine for most kitchens, but 18/0 will not pit near salt or acidic equipment.

Not if the wall is solid and both brackets are in studs. The shelf itself is rigid at 1.0 mm thickness; vibration from the microwave is normal and does not indicate a problem.
