THE WORKING VIEW

Why this food processor earns its place

Not every job needs industrial horsepower. The Kenwood FP120A is a compact processor designed for light to medium prep: grinding herbs, processing nuts, emulsifying dressings, chopping soft vegetables. At 400W and a 1.4-litre bowl, it's honest about its scope — this is a helper for the deli counter, the café prep bench or the small restaurant kitchen where you need a quick chop without running a full commercial machine.

It's white plastic construction, small enough to sit on a counter without claiming territory, and at 3.71 kg you can move it easily if needed. Single-speed operation with a pulse function keeps things simple: switch on or pulse as you watch. Runs on a standard 240V plug — no installation, just clean it and store it. There's no commercial warranty on this unit, which is honest talk: it's not designed for eight-hour-a-day, five-day-a-week grinding. It's made for the occasional-to-regular chop, and that's exactly what it does well.

Craven Cooling can help if you need to troubleshoot a malfunction, but this is consumer-grade equipment — you may find it better value to replace than repair if something serious fails. That said, thousands of these are in working kitchens today because they're reliable for what they're built for.

BEFORE YOU BUY

Questions, answered straight

This is a light-duty tool. Run it for the job at hand — chop your herbs, pulse your nuts, then let it rest. If you're processing food hours at a stretch, a commercial processor is the right choice.

No — this processor is designed for fresh or soft ingredients. Ice will damage the motor and blade, and frozen items are beyond its power rating.

The bowl holds 1.4 litres. For most prep work — a batch of pesto, a handful of breadcrumbs, a small onion finely chopped — that's your limit. For bigger batches, you'll process in stages.

It's a 400W motor in a plastic housing, so yes, it's louder than you'd run for hours. But for the few minutes a job takes, it's fine in a normal kitchen environment.

The bowl and lid are usually dishwasher-safe; check the manual. The motor base stays dry — hand wash and dry after use.

Because there's no commercial warranty, if something breaks after normal use, it may not be economical to repair. Craven Cooling can advise, but replacement might be your best option rather than a service call.
