THE WORKING VIEW

Why this free standing fryer earns its place

The Roller Grill RFG16 is the big sibling of the compact countertop fryers — a freestanding unit that prioritises volume over footprint. Sixteen litres of oil and 30 kg/hr output keeps pace with a busy kitchen doing consistent chip service, fish-and-chip orders, or fried starter platters. Its height (1,055 mm) means it stands alone against a wall or beside your prep bench, not squeezed into counter space.

Build quality is serious. Stainless steel throughout, with the hinged control panel (thermostat and drainage controls) swinging out for easy maintenance access — no fumbling behind tight spaces or calling an engineer for simple checks. The slotted fish plate sits integral to the fryer, so you can fry fillets directly or drop the basket for chips without any extra kit. Temperature ranges to 190°C with a 180°C thermostat lock, piezo ignition for reliable lighting, and safety taps with locks so drainage is controlled, not chaotic.

Single-tank design keeps plumbing simple, and LPG firing means no three-phase electrical installation headache. Once the bottle is connected, you're ready — propane bottles are easy to swap mid-service, and there's no standing pilot to relight if it blows out. The 38 kg frame sits stable on the floor and won't shift during service. Roller Grill backs it with 2 years parts and labour, and most of what needs maintenance (thermostat, tap seals) is accessible under that hinged panel.

BEFORE YOU BUY

Questions, answered straight

That's roughly one full basket every 2.5 minutes at peak pace. For a chippy or takeaway doing 200–300 kg of chips a day (lunch and evening), the RFG16 easily covers it solo. If you're running event catering or a central prep kitchen doing a higher volume, you might run two, but one RFG16 on a standard counter or pass is the baseline for a high-traffic venue.

It's integral — built-in to the fryer design. Drop it in when you're frying fillets directly, keep the basket in for chips. No extra parts to buy or lose, and the design means you get even heat either way.

The bottle connects to the regulator on the side of the fryer, usually sitting on the ground beside or behind the unit. When it empties (usually after 1–2 weeks of heavy use), you swap it out — takes about 5 minutes, no tools. Keep a spare bottle on site so service doesn't stop. Piezo ignition means you can relight instantly after a bottle swap.

The RFG16 holds twice the oil (16 vs 8 or 12 litres) and has the same thermostat control but more thermal mass, so it recovers faster during service. Output also depends on how hard you push it, but the 30 kg/hr rating is real — measured under standard load. For a venue already running two small fryers or struggling with one, stepping up to the RFG16 is often cheaper than running two units and gives you flexibility if demand shifts.

Easy access to the thermostat, drainage tap, and safety lock without having to reach around the back or lose space beside it. Annual maintenance — checking the thermostat and seals — takes 10 minutes instead of an hour. If something does fail, a tech can diagnose and fix it without dismantling the unit.

Two years parts and labour covers manufacturing faults. Annual servicing (call 01792 732702) checks thermostat accuracy, seals, and the piezo ignition spark — usually under £100 and catches wear before it becomes downtime. Keep the drainage system clear and the exterior clean, and it'll run reliably for years.
