THE WORKING VIEW

Why this fridge shelve earns its place

Combisteel shelves slide into rails running the depth of the cabinet, and these four clips lock them at the correct height. That's it — four small pieces of metal doing fundamental work. A locked shelf won't creep downward under load, won't tilt if food weight distributes unevenly, and won't drop suddenly when your team leans on it while reaching across to restock.

One clip set holds one grid rigid. On cabinets running service for years, these clips loosen slowly from constant repositioning — food sliding across the shelf, prep team leaning on it, temperature cycling making the metal expand and contract. The clips aren't wearing out; they're just losing their grip. Replacing them is a five-second tighten, but if you wait until the grid moves, your team will have invented a workaround (leaning it against the back wall, propping it with a tin, wedging a towel under it). That's when you fix it properly.

This set fits Combisteel's mid-range and larger units (models 1300 through 1320, plus the 1384 and 1385 range). It's the clip set you'll need most often. Stock them in pairs — if one grid starts moving, two more won't be far behind. They cost almost nothing but buy enormous peace of mind on a busy prep line.

BEFORE YOU BUY

Questions, answered straight

One set (four clips) locks one shelf. Count your grids, then order accordingly. On a three-shelf cabinet, you'll need three sets. Order spares — once they loosen, you'll want them tomorrow, not next week.

No. This set fits models 1300–1320 and the 1384/1385 range. Smaller models (1345, 1347, 1350, 1353, 1360) use different clip designs. Check your cabinet model number before ordering.

The grid creeps downward slowly. Your team invents workarounds — propping it with bottles, leaning it against the back wall. When food shifts and the grid drops suddenly, you've lost prep time and potentially damaged stock. Fix it properly the first time.

If they're undamaged, yes. If they won't tighten anymore or the locking mechanism is stripped, replace them. New clips cost so little that reusing worn ones rarely makes sense.

Slide the grid to the target position, then secure the four clips from below or the side (your cabinet design dictates). Tighten gently — the clip only needs to hold the grid level, not crush it. One person, thirty seconds per grid.

On a moderate-use prep fridge, five to seven years. High-traffic service lines with constant repositioning, annually. If grids feel loose or wobble when you tap them, that's your signal to order clips immediately.
