Why this tray earns its place
Slate is the display surface that photographs well and feels like deliberate choice. Olympia's trays are 130mm square and 1.6mm thick—small enough for individual tapas, sushi pieces or cheese, big enough that the presentation breathes. The black is deep and contemporary; the natural jagged edges break up the geometric square and suggest craft.
The finish is what makes these work in a busy kitchen. They're sealed with a clear varnish that makes them waterproof, oil-repellent and liquid-repellent. That means your food sits cleanly without grease staining the slate, and whatever moisture gathers—from ice or condensation—beads and wipes away. You can plate fish, cured meats, and delicate items without the board absorbing flavour or degrading under use.
Slate won't chip like ceramic and won't crack under thermal shock the way some materials will. They're stackable, so storage is efficient. That said, they're not dishwasher safe—hand wash preserves the varnish and the natural edges. For restaurants, delis, and patisseries chasing visual impact, four trays gives you a set for plating and spares for the wash.
