THE WORKING VIEW

Why this thermometersbpa-free product earns its place

Food safety comes down to one thing: knowing the temperature. This thermometer is built to tell you, reliably, in two scenarios your kitchen can't avoid. First: is your food cooked to a safe temperature? Second: is your dishwasher actually reaching the temperature it claims? A thermometer that does both jobs is worth its space on your shelf.

The probe is stainless steel, 3.5mm diameter and 120mm long — designed to penetrate meat, fish, and vegetables without deflecting. The digital display reads -50 to 200°C with 0.1°C precision — precise enough to catch the difference between a safe chicken centre and one that's borderline. The thermometer records the max and min temperatures it reaches, useful if you're checking a cycle that's already run or monitoring a box of food in storage. The body is compact (15×24×200mm) and light enough to grab fast, and the display is crisp and easy to read even in a busy kitchen.

The waterproof design means it survives the heat and humidity of a dishwasher without failing. You can drop it inside during the cycle to verify the temperature is genuinely reaching 65°C or above — essential if you're serious about hygiene. And because it's waterproof, you can rinse it under the tap after measuring raw meat, then carry on to the next task.

BEFORE YOU BUY

Questions, answered straight

0.1°C precision lets you catch problems before they become problems. Food safety thresholds are close together — chicken is safe at 74°C, but below 65°C it's dangerous. A thermometer that reads to 0.5°C might miss the difference. 0.1°C is the standard in professional kitchens for that reason.

Yes. The probe is small enough to penetrate without damaging the product, and the range covers all meat cookery. Chicken is around 74°C, pork 63°C, beef 63°C for medium. Insert it into the thickest part away from bone and read the display. Wait 10 seconds for the reading to stabilise.

Rinse under hot running water with a cloth. The waterproof design means you can wash it freely. For extra caution, use a sanitiser spray on the probe, then rinse. Because it's waterproof, you can even place it in a commercial dishwasher with your utensils — it will survive.

Yes. Place it in the utensil basket (not loose where it could get knocked), and it will measure the cycle temperature accurately. This is a valuable check if you suspect the dishwasher temperature is drifting — modern machines sometimes run cooler than their display claims.

Hold the button (marked at the back of the display) to cycle between current temperature, max temperature, and min temperature recorded since the last reset. Useful if you're monitoring food in cold storage — you can leave it and check later if it drifted above 5°C. Press and hold the reset button to clear the memory.

The specifications don't state battery life, but digital thermometers of this type typically run 6–12 months on continuous use. If the display dims or stops updating, the battery needs replacing. Battery type and availability should be checked with the supplier (phone 01792 732702).
