Why this serving tray earns its place
At 18 cm this is a presentation tray, not a carrying tray. It is the size that sits inside a table setting rather than taking it over — a coffee and a single pastry, a pair of condiment pots, the bill and a mint, an amuse before the first course. On a counter it does the job of framing: put three of the same item on bare wood and they read as stock, put them on a defined silver rectangle and they read as an offer. The 110 mm width is the part that decides where it works, because it will slot along the edge of a laid cover or the front lip of a display where a wider tray would have to be angled in.
The hammered finish is the reason to choose steel over a plain flat tray here. A mirror surface under a downlight shows every fingerprint, every dragged cutlery mark and every water spot, and on a small tray that sits close to the customer those marks are at eye level all service. Hammering breaks the reflection into hundreds of small facets, so light scatters instead of pooling and handling marks disappear into the texture. The 15 mm rim is high enough to stop a pot sliding off when the tray is lifted and low enough that a plate or a cup can be set down and taken off cleanly without lifting over a wall. Stainless steel handles the rest: it takes citrus, vinegar and acidic dressings without staining, holds no smell from one service to the next, and wipes back to silver in a pass with a damp cloth.
