THE WORKING VIEW

Why this platter earns its place

Mid-century design doesn't mean compromise on utility: these Churchill Alchemy boards combine a genuine aesthetic with the durability catering demands. Each board features a soft, geometric shape that catches the eye without distraction, sitting comfortably at 295 mm wide and made from lightweight rustic acacia—far easier on the back during a service rush than solid hardwoods.

The finish is food-safe lacquer over wood, which is durable enough for daily plating and presentation. A handle loop runs through the board, making it genuine work kit: you can grip it one-handed whilst presenting charcuterie, cheese, or cured meats, or move four boards at once from prep to pass. Stackable when not in use, so they don't scatter storage.

You get four in a pack, which means you can keep a set out for service while another set dries or rests in the back. The 0.65 kg weight per board makes rotation and handover seamless, a detail that compounds over the course of a full service.

BEFORE YOU BUY

Questions, answered straight

No — hand wash only. The acacia and lacquer finish aren't built for dishwasher temperature or cycle. A quick rinse and dry keeps them in shape and prevents water damage to the wood.

Wipe down after service, dry immediately, and store flat (or stacked). Avoid prolonged soaking. Occasionally rub with food-grade mineral oil if the wood starts to look dry. The lacquer protects against staining, but wood is wood—it'll age with visible use, and that's part of the appeal.

The softer lines make plating look more intentional and modern. It's easier to balance a mixed board without hard edges competing visually with the food itself. It also photographs better if you're posting or showing to clients.

The loop is solid, and the 0.65 kg weight per board is modest—you can safely carry two or three in one hand by the loop, or stack and carry multiple boards. It's designed for working service.

Each board is 295 mm wide (just under 30 cm), with a mid-century footprint that suits boards for 4–6 people or a good solo presentation.
