THE WORKING VIEW

Why this chip potscutlery holder earns its place

This is the bucket that built the gastropub look. Galvanised steel, silver-grey finish, 130 mm diameter with a proper handle—contemporary enough to sit centre-table at a casual restaurant, functional enough to survive a busy shift. At 1.175 litres, it's sized for a proper share (not a solo portion), which is exactly where contemporary casual dining lives.

Line it with Vogue baking parchment (DM177) as the manufacturer suggests, and you've got the whole story: chunky chips, scampi, fried chicken, whatever you're moving through service. The handle means guests can reach across the table without leaning; staff can carry multiple without fumbling. No pretence, just honest tableware that does its job better than a ceramic dish because it looks right and performs right.

It's the kind of small detail that diners remember and photograph. Not fancy, but clearly intentional. That's contemporary service.

BEFORE YOU BUY

Questions, answered straight

At 1.175 litres, expect 200–250g of chips or scampi—one good portion for two, or a generous single. Adjust your stock based on how you're plating.

Hand-wash is best. Dishwashers can eventually dull the galvanised finish, and in high-volume wash cycles, the parchment lining shreds anyway.

The handle itself stays cool, but don't grab it immediately after frying hot oil through the bucket—let items drain first, as you would any fryer vessel.

Parchment linings are part of the look and make cleanup instant. Cost per use is minimal; the lining is both functional and visual.

Galvanised steel is built for heavy use. With normal washing, these last years. Avoid stacking wet in storage, which promotes rust.
