Why this can opener earns its place
The OXO Good Grips can opener is engineered for hands that work all day. The design is mechanical simplicity: a cutting wheel that cleanly pierces can lids without leaving sharp edges, and handles gripped in rubberised material that stays put even in a wet kitchen. At 187mm high and 45mm wide, it's compact enough to live in a pocket or drawer, yet substantial enough to feel solid in hand.
OXO designed this tool around a principle: the grip matters. Rubber doesn't slip when your hand is wet or oily, and the handle diameter suits most palm sizes without forcing adjustment between users. The cutting mechanism is straightforward—you align, squeeze, and rotate. No fiddling, no leverage tricks, no wrist strain. For kitchens that open cans all day (catering, delis, food prep), that means fewer dropped cans and faster work.
Stainless steel build throughout. The black finish doesn't show marks. At 270g, it's substantial—weight that translates to control and stability when you're working fast.
