Why this utility knivesbread knive earns its place
At 254mm and 430g, the Dick 1905 Serrated sits between a bread knife and an all-purpose blade. The serrated edge grips and cuts rather than compresses, so it glides through crusty bread without crushing the crumb, slices cured meats cleanly without tearing, and handles tomatoes and delicate fruits without bruising them. It's equally at home working through tougher vegetables with skin or fibrous structure.
The blade is forged from German stainless steel, and like all 1905 pieces, the handle is moulded onto inseparable steel rings that run the full length. That means no flex, no separation, and a knife that transfers force cleanly through the blade for minimum effort.
The serrated edge itself is dynamic — sharp and precisely cut so teeth bite rather than drag. It won't dull as fast as a straight blade on rough surfaces, and when it does need refreshing, a proper sharpening service can restore it. For everyday use, you'll hone the edge much less frequently than you would a chef knife.
