THE WORKING VIEW

Why this knife set earns its place

This is the set for kitchens that do real work across multiple cuisines and ingredient types. The Mac Chef Series 3-Piece combines a 21.5cm Gyuto (Japanese chef's knife), a 13.5cm paring knife, and a 22cm serrated bread knife — three genuinely different blades designed to cover prep and service work across vegetables, proteins, bread, and delicate items. Each is hand-finished by skilled craftsmen in Japan, stamped from stainless steel that resists rust and staining in high-volume kitchen environments.

The Gyuto is your primary blade: slicing, dicing, breaking down proteins and vegetables at speed. The paring knife handles detail work with precision. And the bread knife — with its serrated edge — tackles the work other blades can't: crusty bread, pastries, tomatoes, or anything where a smooth blade would crush rather than cut. Most kitchens discover they use all three regularly within the first week. The total weight is just over 1kg, making the set light enough to feel quick in your hands without sacrificing edge retention or durability.

Hand wash immediately after use, and these knives will serve your kitchen through years of service. They're built for professional use yet priced for the realities of running a business. One year's warranty covers your investment.

BEFORE YOU BUY

Questions, answered straight

A smooth blade crushes soft items like bread and tomatoes; a serrated edge saws through them cleanly. You'll use the bread knife regularly once you have it — it's not a specialist tool, it's just a different tool. Many kitchens find they reach for it more than they expect.

The Gyuto is slimmer, pointed, and lighter — designed for slicing and precision rather than heavy chopping. The rocking motion favours forward slicing. If you're used to Western technique, expect an adjustment period, but most cooks find it faster and more precise once they adapt.

These three handle 95% of most kitchen's daily work — the Gyuto for bulk prep, the bread knife for soft items, the paring knife for detail. You might eventually add a boning knife for specific protein work, but the set is genuinely complete for general kitchen use.

The paring knife is small and agile — it's faster and safer for detail work, peeling, and small cuts. Using the Gyuto for everything means you're holding a longer blade than you need. The paring knife earns its place in your hand.

Hand wash immediately after use with warm soapy water and a soft cloth. Use a honing steel weekly to maintain the edge alignment. When they eventually need professional sharpening, ring 01792 732702 and we'll point you toward local services.

One year, covering defects in materials and workmanship. That's enough time to work with the knives and know they're right for your kitchen.
