THE WORKING VIEW

Why this box earns its place

Stacker boxes are the structure underneath a buffet. What a guest reads as a well-dressed table is usually just dishes set at different heights, and this is one of the blocks doing that work — the 1/6 rectangular format, 212 x 199 mm on the counter, sized to sit in a run without taking it over.

80 mm is the middle level, and it is the height that does the most work on a table. It lifts a bowl or a board clear of whatever sits in front of it, brings the food to an angle a standing guest can see into rather than across, and puts a real step between one section and the next. It stacks, so that height is set during setup and adjusted through service — up while a display is full, down as it clears.

Natural oak is the finish for daylight. The pale, open grain reads warm against white crockery, brown bread and baked goods, and it suits the rooms that are already full of light rather than fighting them — bakery counters, farm shop tables, bright breakfast rooms. The ribbed sides run a line of shadow along the length and give the hands something to grip when a dressed block gets moved mid-service.

BEFORE YOU BUY

Questions, answered straight

212 x 199 x 80 mm. The 212 x 199 mm footprint is the 1/6 rectangular size in the Podium modular sizing, so blocks line up along a counter run rather than leaving odd gaps.

In the middle. It is tall enough to lift a dish clear of a front row and angle it towards a standing guest, and low enough that it does not hide whatever is set behind it.

A flat table gives the eye nothing to follow. Height differences separate dishes, pull people along the display and keep the back of the table visible from where they are standing.

212 x 199 mm. On a standard buffet table that leaves working room either side for tongs, a serving spoon and a dish ticket.

Wipe it by hand with a cloth and a food-safe cleaner and dry it straight away rather than leaving moisture on the grain. Pale timber shows a mark sooner than a dark finish, so the wipe between services matters more here.

It is a flat-based rectangular block, so on a level counter it sits square. Keep the weight centred over the footprint and stack squarely, and a dressed display holds through service.
