Why this insert earns its place
A bottle standing free on a service counter is the thing that gets knocked, and it is also the thing that ends up at a slightly different angle every time somebody puts it back. The insert takes that decision away: the bottle sits into the board, in the same place, facing the same way, for the whole of a service. On a self-service drinks station or a breakfast run that is the difference between a counter that still looks set at ten o'clock and one that looks picked over. The third-size footprint means it claims a narrow 18.5cm strip rather than a full run of counter, so it drops into a tight space beside a till or at the end of a bar without pushing anything else out of the way.
Oak is a deliberate choice on a display counter — it reads warmer than steel or glass under low light, and at 3cm the slab has enough weight to sit dead flat and stay where it is put rather than skating when a bottle goes in or comes out. The black finish keeps the grain visible while dropping the board back visually, so the eye goes to the bottle and its label rather than to what is underneath it; green and amber glass in particular lifts off a dark surface. Timber wants a different routine to crockery: wipe it down with a damp cloth between services and dry it off rather than soaking it or leaving it wet under a bottle, and it holds its finish for years of daily use.
