THE WORKING VIEW

Why this bottle stopper earns its place

An opened bottle of wine deteriorates as it oxidises. The Vacu-Vin wine saver removes oxygen from the bottle and reseals it with a stopper and pump, buying you time — sometimes days — before the wine tastes thin or corked. It's simple physics: no air, no oxidation.

The system is straightforward. You place the rubber stopper on the bottle, use the hand pump to draw out the air, and the built-in indicator clicks to confirm you've reached the right vacuum level. Once sealed, the bottle sits in the wine cooler or back of house for as long as the wine lasts. The two stoppers included in the pack mean you can preserve two open bottles at once, or have a spare when one gets old.

This matters in a bar, restaurant or hotel where you might have several bottles open across an evening service — expensive bottles, house wine, wine by the glass operations. Vacu-Vin isn't a shelfware. It's a real tool that extends the life of opened stock and reduces wastage. And at a modest investment, the savings pay back quickly once you're not pouring oxidised wine down the sink.

BEFORE YOU BUY

Questions, answered straight

Typically several days. Once vacuumed and sealed, most wines hold their character for 3–7 days depending on the wine. White wines last longer than reds. You get real time, not hours.

The built-in indicator clicks when vacuum is reached. You'll hear and feel the click. That's your signal — stop pumping.

No — the package explicitly states not suitable for sparkling wine. The vacuum collapses the carbonation and you lose the fizz. Use it only on still wines.

They're one-way valves. Once the stopper is on and air is removed, air can't get back in. You don't need to pump again — the seal holds until you next open the bottle.

The indicator prevents over-pumping — it clicks when vacuum is reached and won't pump further. The design is forgiving.

Vacuuming slows oxidation, not fermentation. Cool storage (a wine fridge or back-of-house cooler) is still the best practice, but vacuum-sealing buys you time even at room temperature if needed.
