Why this cheque spike earns its place
A cheque spike does one job and does it faster than any tray or clip: paper goes on, in sequence, one-handed, without anyone stopping to square a stack. Every settled bill, void, refund slip and kitchen docket ends up in the order it happened, which is what makes cash-up a matter of lifting the stack and working down it rather than hunting the bar for a receipt that blew off the counter.
At 220 mm there is room for a full service before the stack starts fouling the point, and the top of the paper stays clear of the till and the card machine rather than creeping across them. Stainless steel matters more here than it looks: this sits on a wet bar top among spilt drink and wiped-down surfaces, and mild steel would take rust and mark every sheet on the spike. Keep it staff-side and back from the customer edge — the point is sharp, and it is not something to have within reach of a leaning elbow or a child at a table.
