Why this gastronorm earns its place
A deep 1/1 size gastronorm that sits 100 mm tall—deep enough to hold a full batch of marinated protein, a full hotel pan of sauce, or a day's prep of composite dishes. Melamine is lighter than stainless steel, harder to dent, and won't corrode if knocked against a workbench or slid across a prep counter. Black finish is practical for high-protein prep (dark meat, grilled items) where staining is inevitable and easier to hide than on white.
Melamine gastronorms stack neatly for cold storage and transport between prep and service. The straight sides and standard GN footprint mean they sit flush in a bain-marie, under a heat lamp, or stacked on a cold counter. Weight matters when a single prep cook is moving ten pans at once before a service.
These live in back-of-house kitchens where speed and durability outweigh aesthetics. A stainless equivalent would cost twice as much and show every fingerprint on the pass.
