Why this tumbler earns its place
The Arcoroc Starline old-fashioned glass is built for concentrated drinks. At 270ml, it's the right size for spirits neat or with a splash, whiskey and a cube of ice, or short cocktails where the spirit takes centre stage. Like all Starline glasses, it's fully tempered—up to five times more resistant than untreated glass to the thermal and mechanical shocks that break ordinary glassware. In spirit service especially, where drinks sit over ice for extended periods, thermal durability matters.
The form speaks simplicity. A straight-sided tumbler with a compact base, vertical grooves for grip, and a square profile that stacks cleanly. There's nothing fussy about it: the design is contemporary without being trendy, and it works just as well at a neighbourhood pub as it does behind a hotel bar. The proportion feels right in the hand, whether a guest is nursing a drink over conversation or a bartender is building rounds.
Tempering is the key durability advantage. These glasses handle thermal shock (ice meeting glass) and mechanical shock (impacts, stacking) without a second thought. And if a tempered glass does break—rare though it is—it shatters into harmless pebbles, not sharp shards. That's a genuine safety feature in fast-paced hospitality.
