Why this saucer earns its place
An espresso saucer sits at the intersection of function and theatre. It catches the drip from a 30ml pull, provides a stable platform for a small cup, and is the last thing a guest touches before the shot disappears. These Barshine saucers are tempered glass with an art deco pattern—designed for the speed of Italian coffee culture and the durability demands of a busy café.
At 140mm diameter, they're sized precisely for a standard espresso cup. The 19mm profile is minimal but substantial—thin enough not to dominate the table, thick enough to feel quality. Because they're glass, the saucer itself is transparent. Light passes through; the cup and coffee are the focus. There's no staining, no absorption, no colour fade. A splash of espresso and a quick wipe are forgotten; there's no residual mark or odour.
Tempered glass is hardened through a thermal process that increases its resistance to chipping and breaking. It won't absorb oils or acids. It survives thermal shock—moving from a 65 °C dishwasher to room temperature without stress. A commercial dishwashing cycle is routine; hundreds of cycles are irrelevant to the glass's integrity. Twelve saucers stack to roughly 23cm—stackable in any café cupboard. At 0.2 kg per saucer, they're light enough for staff to manage rapidly, even during the morning rush.
