Why this bowl earns its place
A 178mm soup bowl is the standard size for a main course soup or broth — large enough to hold a generous portion of liquid and solids without spilling, but not so large that it cools the soup too quickly. Churchill's porcelain is fired at high temperature over two days to develop lasting strength and heat retention. Porcelain holds heat better than ceramic, an advantage when soup arrives at the table and should stay hot through the meal.
The coupe profile — a smooth, unrimmed edge — is the contemporary choice for high-volume venues. It maximises the bowl's usable capacity and eliminates the rim break point where plates and bowls most often chip. The smooth interior surface makes it easy to portion and plate in the kitchen, and easy to wash and dry.
A 540ml capacity is adequate for a satisfying soup course — roughly two ladles — and leaves room for garnish without spilling. A pack of 24 covers a full service for a restaurant or provides stock for a hotel's soup stations.
