THE WORKING VIEW

Why this bowl earns its place

The Mirage collection gives this bowl a wonderful contrasting background for food presentation. Melamine is the default choice where breakage is a real cost: kitchens that run three, four, or more services a day find the durability worth the trade-off. Red catches light and holds it; food photographs well against the depth.

This 19 cm bowl takes roughly a single diner's portion of sauce, dip, or side without crowding the plate. Light at 50 mm depth means it lives in hot passes without tiring hands. Stacks flat, survives passthrough dishwashers on standard cycles, and the colour stays fast through thousands of washes.

Melamine does not tolerate direct heat—hold it off the pass if orders come close to boil. The material is food-safe but not for long-term storage of acidic items or oils.

BEFORE YOU BUY

Questions, answered straight

Yes, melamine is food-safe at standard washing temperatures. A cycle above 65 °C is safe; verify your machine's programme.

Red holds its depth through thousands of cycles if not left in direct sunlight when stored. Avoid stacking with darker items that can stain.

Not recommended. Melamine softens above 70 °C and should not be used in a hot pass or with very hot liquids. Use for room-temperature or cool service.

The Mirage range comes in five colours and multiple sizes. Call us on 01792 732702 to confirm current stock if you need a single replacement.

Chips in melamine are usually cosmetic and won't affect durability or food safety. Small chips do not grow wider; the material remains waterproof. Deep damage warrants replacement.

Melamine is lighter, faster to wash, and recovers from drops that would shatter ceramic. The trade-off is heat tolerance—ceramic withstands direct flame and ovens; melamine does not.
