Out by tractor.

A working farm, a busy café, and an old multideck too big to carry by hand — so the farm owner lifted it out with a tractor.

The job

Craven Cooling was appointed to replace an existing refrigerated multideck at Dunvant Farm Shop — Bevexe Fawr Farm, Dunvant, Swansea. An established farm shop on a working farm, with a busy café alongside it.

The site remained open and active throughout the installation, so the work had to be organised around customers, staff, farm vehicles and the normal day-to-day running of the business.

The challenge

Due to the size and weight of the old cabinet, its removal needed careful coordination — on a site that never stopped being a working farm and a trading shop.

Shop and café, open

Members of the public visited both the shop and café throughout, so the installation area had to stay controlled, tidy and safe at every stage.

Size and weight

The old cabinet was too large and heavy to remove by hand alone. Getting it out of the shop and off the premises took careful, coordinated moving.

A working farm

Farm vehicles and everyday farm activity continued around the site, alongside the shop’s own customers and deliveries.

The solution

Our engineers decommissioned and disconnected the existing multideck, then carefully moved it out of the shop. Outside, we worked with the farm owner, who used a tractor to lift the cabinet and move it into one of the farm’s old barns — making use of the equipment already on site to complete the removal safely and efficiently.

The new Arneg Osaka 3.75m multideck was then delivered, unloaded and carefully moved into position in the farm shop. New refrigeration pipework was installed between the cabinet and the KD condensing unit, and once all connections were complete, the system was pressure tested, commissioned and checked.

The removal, delivery, installation and commissioning were handled as one package, so the changeover stayed straightforward for the customer and disruption to the business stayed to a minimum.
